Liberalisation of Regulated Sectors -Posted on 20 Jul 2009
There has always been a dearth of job opportunities in India, especially for the people who are from financially weaker section of the society. One of the sectors which has the potential to provide ample opportunities but has been restricted due to regulation by the government is the Intermediate public transport sector. The current initiative of Prabodh has a focus on this sector and our endeavours are structured to bring a change in the present scenario.
This Project which has been funded by LYSA for its Indian Member organisations focuses on Liberalisation of regulated sectors like Intermediate public sector in order to create more jobs.
The private owned transport system is self regulated in India, but an anomaly to it is the Auto Rickshaw segment. This section is strictly regulated by the government and is least driven by competition. Our main objective is to bring awareness among masses towards the issue and let them raise a voice to request the government to make this system competition driven, allow more entries thus creating more opportunities.
In order to achieve our objective, we have planned to make a documentary, shooting for which commenced on 15th July. We are hoping to finish it by Mid August after which it is likely to be screened at various places in India with the help of Jeevika, a livelihood film-festival on South Asian level [www.jeevika.in]. The film is being directed by Saumitra, an NID alumnus.
We have kick-started our online campaign woven around the same theme.
As a part of it, we have launched our website http://www.prabodhtya.in/ through which we will publicize our idea in order to capture the minds of Tech savvy individuals.
The research for the project is being carried out and updated by Prabodh. The cost and resources have been shared by Prabodh and CPPR.
